Celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day!

Happy Martin Luther King, Jr., Day!

Did you know the United States observes the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Holiday on the 3rd Monday of every January? Yes, on April 8, 1968, just four days after Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated, Congressman John Conyers introduced legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives providing for a Martin Luther King, Jr. Federal Holiday. Several states, including Massachusetts and Connecticut, enacted statewide King Holidays. On November 3, 1983, President Ronald Reagan signed the bill establishing the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Holiday. The King Holiday was first observed on January 20, 1986.
