February 26, 2001:
MY
ROSA PARKS BEAR by Donna A. My hero is Rosa
Parks.
If I could make up a bear, I would choose Rosa Parks
because of her courage while sitting on the bus.
I would make the bear purple because she wore a
purple outfit on that day. I would also add a purple
hat and glasses. I would have a bus as her logo.
On December 1, 1955, Rosa
Parks boarded a public bus in Montgomery, Alabama.
She did not give up her seat to a white male, even
though the law stated she must do so. Parks was
arrested and found guilty. This led to the Montgomery
Bus Boycott which lasted 381 days. One of the leaders
of the boycott was Martin Luther King, Jr. On November
13, 1956, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled segregation
on public buses was illegal. On December 21, the
bus boycott in Montgomery ended. Read
about Rosa Parks.
